THE STUDY IS BEING CARRIED OUT AT THE MIGUEL DE MOLINOS OLD PEOPLE’S HOME IN MUNIESA (TERUEL) AND ANALYSES HOW PRILUX WAS TECHNOLOGY AFFECTS THE CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS OF THE ELDERLY.
- The study is being carried out at the Miguel de Molinos old people’s home in Muniesa (Teruel) and analyses how Prilux WAS Technology affects the circadian rhythms of the elderly.
- The project provides residents with WAS colour temperature change technology and Prilux’s integrated control system.
We have started together with the association Adaine a study to analyze how the change of color temperature (CCT) of LED lighting affects the behavior of the elderly at the residence Miguel de Molinos in Muniesa (Teruel).
Taking into account the influence of light on people’s circadian cycles and after having carried out a similar project in the United States and Canada, as well as in some northern European countries, this lighting project focuses on human beings and aims to improve their health as well as observe the effectiveness of regulated light in geriatric environments, with people with different pathologies, as it affects occupational, behavioural and physiological components such as agitation, sleep-wake, blood pressure, attention, concentration, etc..
Light is a fundamental element for the human body and, therefore, its use must be planned with great care. Knowing what we need to improve our comfort and wellbeing becomes a priority when establishing the type of lighting. The lighting conditions, depending on the contribution of natural light that there is at each moment in the residence and the activity to be carried out, has a direct impact on the quality of life, personal comfort, behaviour, rest and wellbeing.
To this end, we have installed a series of luminaires with WAS colour temperature change technology and an integrated control system with scenes programmed according to the room and the activity to be carried out in each space of the nursing home.
After the study in the Colegio San Patricio in Toledo to see the performance of the students. After taking measurements for 3 months, they have shown that the change in colour temperature (CCT) of the LED lighting directly affects the behaviour of children during the school day. After three months under specific lighting schemes, the first results show significant improvements in attention and concentration. The total number of errors in TEST D2 has been reduced by 64%, the processing speed has been increased by 26%, there has been a modest increase of 3.5% in the reading speed and a drastic decrease of 40% in the number of errors when reading as well as an improvement of 10% in reading comprehension.
